470 Chicago Avenue — Elgin, IL
The house at 470 Chicago Avenue in Elgin, Illinois, built in 1887, is an exceptional example of a finely detailed Stick-Style house.
As seen in this black-and-white photograph, the lattice work over the second story porch, the sunburst influence in the porch detailing, the variation in the siding pattern, and the finely detailed bays highlight its construction.
Also of note from a photographic standpoint, this house was photographed by John Vachon (FSA) during his brief stop in 1941 on his way West. His photograph can be seen from the Library of Congress’s collection of FSA photographs. This is my rendition of the house in honor of Vachon.
